Enjoy Your Company

It’s scary, I know, but also not as scary as you might think. Showing up anywhere on your own is nerve-racking. For some reason, we’re not used to our own company. So we get hung up waiting on people, but life happens, people get busy, time is never right, and you lose interest in whatever it is that you wanted to do. Don’t get me wrong, trying new experiences surrounded by your loved ones is wonderful, but at a time when you’re by yourself, don’t hold back on enjoying life.

  • Go to the cinema. Get yourself a bucket of popcorn and a drink and go watch that movie you’ve been waiting to come out for ages. It’s not weird, people won’t look at you twice, and your worries will quiet down once you’ve immersed yourself in the movie.

  • Try that new restaurant/cafe. Take yourself out. Who knows? You might find your next favourite food. Not to mention, a change in setting might be exactly what you need to add some zest to your everyday routine.

  • Join a class. Whether it’s pottery, pilates, painting, or dance, give yourself time to enjoy something you’re interested in. Not only is it a chance to build a new skill, but it’s also a way to meet and interact with people with similar interests to you.

  • Go to a concert. Your favourite artist might not be everyone’s, and who knows when the next time they’ll be around again. Go to that concert. Enjoy the music, the atmosphere, and an unforgettable experience. You’ll even find people just as passionate as you in there.

Don’t be scared to experience things on your own. Life is way too short, and the voices in your head telling you it’s weird are lying. People are either way too busy or too concerned with themselves to care about someone minding their own business and enjoying life on their own. We would rather do anything but sit with ourselves and our own thoughts for a second, and that in itself is self-destructive. You make great company; learn to enjoy it.
