Valentines ideas

14/2/2017

Valentine’s Day is meant to be the international day of love - how lovely, right? But there is also the social convention in which you must buy your significant other flowers and chocolates and expensive items to show that. In my opinion, I don’t believe that’s right. Maybe it’s me talking from the POV of someone who spends Valentine's Day with their dogs, but do you really need to spend a butt ton of money just to express your love for someone?

Here are a few alternate ideas that are very cheap, or even free, but still say a lot.

  • You could go for a walk. This probably seems like a completely random, everyday thing - but it’s the time of the year where everything is frosted over, and your local forest or country walk is probably pretty beautiful. It’s also a chance to just talk, and enjoy each other’s company. It’s a way to spend time with each other and just discuss things and be with one another and appreciate their presence.

  • A scrapbook - all you need is some old photos, a notebook and some glue. You can collage stuff or just do it one photo per page, and write cute notes about the memories or events in the pictures. It’s also a lot more personal than anything you can buy.

  • A letter - this one is quite cheesy, but some people like that. If your S/O is a fan of chick flicks or cliches, this might be perfect. You can write down ten reasons why you love them or just a few words about how you appreciate them.

  • Go to an arcade - if you’re anything like me and have a worryingly large amount of loose change, then a great way to get rid of it is to go to an arcade. Entrance is usually free, and you can spend time with each other just messing around and having fun.

  • A movie marathon of their favourite series - if you’re S/O is a fan of a film series, why not binge watch them together? Do they love Harry Potter, or Star Wars? If you own the films, a marathon is a good idea. They’re doing something they love with the person they love.

I hope you have a wonderful Valentine’s Day with your S/O - remember that is a day where you should enjoy the presence of one another, and it’s not about spending large amounts of money on things. At the end of the day, it is a day of love and not a day of money.
