Masturbation

There are plenty of taboo topics in the modern world and some of them are potentially right to be avoided. However, there is one topic which shouldn’t be avoided.

Masturbation.
That’s right. Masturbation, touching yourself, self-pleasure – whatever you want to call it. People don’t talk about it but we are going to. Masturbation is completely normal. You should feel no shame over masturbation. It’s not wrong or bad or naughty. It is a normal thing that most people do. At the same time, it is not weird if you don’t masturbate. It is a personal choice for each individual to make and if you want to masturbate, you do that. If you don’t want to masturbate then that’s okay.

Masturbation actually has a lot of benefits including:
 Helping you figure out what you like.
 Helping men learn how to hold off orgasm.
 Helping women learn how to orgasm.
 Relieving sexual tension.
 Relieving stress.
 Aiding sleep.

Mainly, it feels good. Everyone wants to feel good and masturbation is a way to do that. It is a common misconception that masturbation is dangerous or can have unpleasant side effects such as going blind or growing hair on your hands or even making your penis fall off! None of these are true. It is impossible for any of those things to be caused by masturbation. It isn’t particularly dangerous either. The risk of pregnancy is much lower than if you’re having sex – the only way you can get pregnant from masturbation is if you’re partaking in mutual masturbation (both of you masturbating at the same time or watching your partner masturbate or pleasuring your partner while they pleasure you) and sperm is transferred from your/your partner’s fingers to your vagina.
This means that, by the same token, the chance of STIs are much lower. Just to be extra safe, always wash your hands after touching anyone’s genitals and if you use sex toys then always wash those too and use a condom if possible. It isn’t possible to masturbate too much. There isn’t a limit on how many times you should masturbate or how often. The only risk is that your genitals will be a bit sore or sensitive afterwards, especially if you orgasm. If a man does it a lot in one day, it may be slightly swollen but that should go down fairly quickly. If it doesn’t, go and see a doctor to check if everything is okay. It also is very rare that you can injure yourself masturbating. Once again there is a risk of soreness or swelling and potentially some cuts or bruised or red marks if you are particularly rough or you are using an object which has some sharp edges. There is such thing as a broken penis for men but that is very unlikely to happen – only if it is twisted violently whilst a man is erect and usually by someone else. Generally, you have nothing to worry about.

So now that you’re a bit more educated, it’s your turn to try it out if you want to. Go have fun and own your sexual pleasure!
