Skills are a difficult thing to gain during teenage years. Careers can be a huge part in what skills maybe you’ve gained or would like to gain. Now don’t panic because I’ve mentioned career. It’s perfectly okay if you haven’t yet decided what you’d like to do. This article will hopefully help those who’ve decided at this age and want to be able to have the skills at a young age to benefit them when the time of their desired career arrives.
Personally, I was asked constantly though the first three years of highschool what I wanted to do for a career and I had no clue. I’ve been a creative person all my life, my creative skills are higher than my academic skills so I always put myself into a creative box when it came to thinking about careers. During a maths lesson my teacher decided to give us the laptops to search up careers since we’d finished our exams. I did a test online to see which jobs would match up to me the most. One came up that caught my eye, that being a doctor. I researched the skills and I needed and realised I’d need to cleanly pass my science GCSE’s, and this just so happened to be a week before the science exams. I ordered and made revision guides, I spent the entire week revising as much as I could before the exams, and this helped me find out I do have skills in science and not only creativity. Finding a career helped me open boxes of skills I wouldn’t have even tried without the thought. Since then, i’ve done research on the job, learnt a lot and I have a lot to aim for! Having my future planned out makes it a lot less stressful to organise what skills I should focus on most, although I am prepared for it to go a different path as I know there’s not a definite chance I’ll be able to be a doctor. I think to help you with career skills, firstly if you haven’t already, try and spend some time deciding on what you want to do, and I don’t mean thinking about it for 10 minutes or so. Do some research and quizzes to give you a helping hand! You may get a result which catches your eye like nothing else has before. Secondly, once you’ve decided on what you want to do, find out HOW you can do it and what skills to gain in order to reach your goal. It’s nothing to stress over if you can prepare yourself and try to organise the way you’re going to approach your future career. Finally, push yourself! You can’t gain the skills you need if you don’t try your 100% best to have them. If your dream is what you desire, you should push yourself to reach them! Although it was short, I hope you were able to benefit from this article. Please feel free to message our team with any issues and remember, you’re the best version of yourself.
