I'm not tired!

24/6/2017

Chronic fatigue- being tired, without the need for sleep. It’s physical and mental exhaustion, and it stops those who suffer from it from being able to enjoy daily life.
With my personal experience, I have heard some ridiculous attitudes towards chronic fatigue, such as:

“If you just got more sleep.”
“You’re just making a huge deal out of being a little sleepy”
“It’s just hormones!”

I’m here to explain that it is not any of these, and that if you suffer from CF you’re not just being dramatic.
Chronic Fatigue is very serious, and it comes in 3 main forms:

  1. Mild fatigue: This is where you can carry on daily activities with slight difficulty and a constant state of ‘I am going to fall over from exhaustion, but I can manage’. This causes a very mild case of anxiety or depression (or both, and if you already have these two illnesses it enhances the feelings) and perhaps causes difficultly in concentration.
  2. Moderate fatigue: Moderate fatigue causes you to be clumsier in your movement, you may also have disturbed sleep patterns and need to sleep in the day. To help with this I take tablets that help keep me revived and more awake (you can get these in natural stores such as Holland and Barrett’s). Anxiety and depression is more likely to come with this form, and it is quite hard to concentrate for more than 10 minutes.
  3. Severe fatigue: I don’t personally have experience with this type, but the NHS definition is: you're able to carry out minimal daily tasks, such as brushing your teeth, but have significantly reduced mobility, and may also have severe difficulty concentrating.

If you truly believe that you suffer from Fatigue in any form then I have some simple yet - from my personal experience - effective ways to help cope with everyday life.

As I suffer from Moderate Fatigue, I find staying awake very difficult no matter the amount of sleep I do or do not get. To help with this I take natural tablets as mentioned before. I get mine from Holland and Barrett’s, and as it is all natural it causes no harm. I highly suggest this, but if you dislike tablets there are other methods to help fatigue.
Aroma therapy is a very good way and as fatigue is sometimes caused by extreme stress, riding this stress can help.
You can also try exercising in small amounts, however this is very difficult with moderate or severe forms of fatigue and I advise you don’t try to exert yourself, as that will make your symptoms much worse.
But the main thing is - always tell yourself you can. If you're feeling extremely exhausted, the easiest thing to do is deny your ability to do anything. It is a fact that with this illness you will need to rest a lot, and that is perfectly fine. Never put yourself down because of it!
