It costs nothing to be kind

In this article I will be talking about some small things / big things you can do to those around you, if you are aiming to be kinder and more selfless in the new year. Although it doesn't have to be a new years resolution to improve how we treat others, for many it is as it sets them a goal and it becomes very negative to betray that. 


To be kind costs absolutely nothing, you don't need to buy extravagant gifts or take people on holidays, sometimes it's as little as holding a door or saying please and thank you. Every day provides opportunity to be kind and considerate; when you walk into school / college, say good morning to your teachers and friends, ask how they are, give your friends a hug, perhaps compliment something you like about them everyday, if somebody looks upset, give them a smile or ask how they are if necessary, give them a little pick me up. 


If you have close friends that you go out with, and a little extra change, don't be reluctant to buying them a drink or a snack, get them to try one of your favourites!! Recommend music and make a cd of all your favourites to give to a close friends, it's such a sweet and caring thing to do, and it doesn't take up much time. 


Say good morning / good afternoon to anyone in public services, they are practically selfless everyday and help us out all the time, smile at the elderly, talk to them at bus stops, help them with their bags if you have time to spare. When you get off a bus/taxi etc or leave a store say "thank you, have a good day!" I always aim to do this and the amount of people who are completely stunned is actually often upsetting, it should be normal!! 


It really lights up people's day if people are kind. There's so much cruel in the world, so even though we can't do much about the bigger things, we can do a lot about the smaller ones! It costs nothing to be kind, but it's worth so much.
